Our Eco Committee

HURRAY!

We were awarded our GREEN FLAG in October 2008. We are hoping to be awarded our next Green Flag award this year.

We held a Big Book Swap in February and were delighted at the uptake - pupils got rid of books they no longer wanted: others got a new set of books to read; and a donation of £250 was made to the Haiti Appeal. Win! Win! Win!

We follow our Eco Code

We need an ECO Code which tells everyone in the community and school what we are doing.

All the pupils and staff in the school follow our Litter Policy.

The Eco School Committee now has responsibility for updating this page.

We are excited about the gardens at the back and front of the school. Miss Michie (who used to be a DHT in RDM) formally opened our new Quiet Garden at the front of the school.

She was very pleased to see the garden open as she had had many discussions about it when she had been the DHT at RDM before her retiral. We look forward to seeing the rose grow and blossom.

Getting our friendship path started

Every child in the Primary school had the chance to paint their own stone. Miss Devlin who oversees the Eco Committee watches the placing of one of the last stones. We have already received our Silver award as an Eco School. Well done to all the pupils, parents, staff and community who have worked towards this achievement.

We are really pleased with the work being done at the front of the school to make a pleasant improvement to our school. Here are some pictures of what is being done. We will add pictures as the work goes on.

School Audit

We had to do this to see what we had to do and make. We filled in the survey and looked at working points. We came up with many ideas and suggestions.  We will continue to work in small groups to make the school a better place.

Bulb Planting

We decided that every child in the school should be able to plant a bulb including the Autistic Base and Nursery. This took place at the front of the school. This made a wonderful and bright display.

The bulbs and gardening equipment were donated by Bonhard Nursery, ASDA & the Co-op. A big thank you for these donations.

Garden

The ECO Committee, in previous years, made plans for a garden at the front school gate.  We got Mr Dick, a gardener, to look at the plans.  He seemed to think they were good plans and put them into place.  The garden is now finished.  It is looking really good!

There are a few things left to do. We now look forward to more planting being done - then we can begin to really enjoy it!

Once our garden is finished it will be a great achievement.

We now have a Garden Club which meets every Monday to look after our school grounds. It makes the grounds look good - and we have fun doing it!
